Afton Nature School is a Licensed NC program with a 5-Star rating for children ages 2 through 5.



Our classrooms are full of natural light, have beautiful hardwood floors and are well-outfitted with quality learning tools. The outdoor learning space is nestled in the shade of mature trees. The school is located on a beautiful wooded tract in Carrboro, NC ,with easy access from Chapel Hill, I-40 and walking distance from Carrboro town center. As NC Certified teachers, we apply the best of Reggio-Inspired Learning, Nature-Based Learning, and Research-Based Early-Childhood philosophies. Our mission is to provide our young learners with engaging and enjoyable play experiences that maximize their intellectual, social, and physical development. The design of the program provides for a joyful childhood while preparing our students to enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Please email us to arrange a visit or request our parent handbook with learning objectives. Our school day is from 8:30am-3:30pm (later options available) Monday through Friday. We operate during the school year and the summer to provide year-round care. We welcome you to come take a look!

Afton Nature School philosophy



Afton Nature School’s philosophy of early childhood education begins with a beautiful school environment of love, warmth, acceptance, and the understanding that each child is a special and unique individual. At Afton Nature School, children ages spend time breathing fresh air, being physically active, and building an understanding of the world around them in our classrooms and our outdoor learning environment. Kindness and respect toward others is paramount. Exclusion and bullying are not acceptable in the school community. Small classes and teachers with high education levels assure the highest standards at the critical time when young children are forming their concepts of themselves as learners. Afton gives preschoolers a strong start educationally, physically, and emotionally that will serve them long after they leave Afton Nature School.
